DRDCOC Social Entrepreneurship Awardee

 February 15, 2016

 Dear Donna Vickers,

The Nonprofit Network for Youth and Family Empowerment (NNYFE) believes that is takes a special individual to initiate efforts of change in our community through grass-root nonprofit organizations, community programs, and ministries. Over the past several years we have had the honor of meeting founders and passionate individuals who have taken on many challenges in our community and have become change agents through several initiatives. This year we have chosen to honor and celebrate a few of those individuals.

I am excited to notify you that we have chosen you Donna Vickers and your social entrepreneurial organization Donna’s Restoration Diner & Community Outreach Center as our Social Entrepreneurship Awardee. You and your organization were chosen for this year’s award because of your commitment to being the change needed in our communities. This award will be presented to you and your organization during our 2016 Annual Nonprofit and Social Entrepreneurs Tea, Lunch & Awards Ceremony that is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 2016 11:00am to 2:00pm at the Stegton Conference & Banquet Center, 1450 Wall Street, St. Charles, MO 63303. A Wealth of Information was provided during this event from qualified and experienced individuals in Grant Writing, Banking, Law, and Social Entrepreneurs!

Donna’s Restoration Diner and Community Outreach Center was a recent recipient of a grant from the Old Newsboys 2014 Awards Ceremony at Edward Jones Auditorium, April 23, 2015.

Every spring Old Newsboys awards grants to hundreds of regional charities, and DRDCOC is proud to be the recipient of an organization that has helped to make such an impact in the St.Louis area. The mission of the Old Newsboys is simple — to ensure that children who are at risk in our community, because of abuse or poverty, receive adequate food, shelter, clothing, medical care and are provided equal opportunity for social development. By providing funding through its grant, the Old Newsboys organization ensures that DRDCOC will continue to enrich the lives of children and adults in St.Louis.

More on “Old Newsboys Organization”

There are many charities in St. Louis, but perhaps none of them is as extensive or synonymous with St. Louis, as Old Newsboys, now a charitable project of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Old Newsboys is a non-profit organization that has raised millions of dollars for hundreds of area children’s charities. Fund-raising activities occur throughout the year.

Many families with deep roots in the St. Louis area help keep the tradition of Old Newsboys strong. We hope that all St. Louisians join in and contribute generously to this worthy effort. Old Newsboys has a long history of community commitment, an asset that provides an umbrella for at-risk children. All funds collected go to the charities.

Duncan Bauman of the Globe-Democrat started Old Newsboys Day in 1957. This year’s campaign date of Thursday, November 19, echoes the dream of his commitment. To him, it was not just an event. It was a catalyst for community involvement, where individuals from all walks of life — Rotarians, businesses, organizations, high school students, families, friends — could join together for a common goal: to sell a special edition of the newspaper and raise much-needed funds for multiple charities that serve Metro St. Louis’ children.

Funding helps ensure every child in the St. Louis area has an equal opportunity to live a healthy, educated life. The fund is often called the “charity of last resort” because small, in-the-trench charities rely on these grants to avoid being at the road’s end for supplying necessary items like food, clothing and medical supplies.

The Suburban Journals assumed stewardship of the Old Newsboys Day project in 1988, shortly after the demise of the daily Globe-Democrat morning newspaper. This year marks the second year with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch at the helm of the campaign. Now celebrating its 59th campaign for kids, Old Newsboys has raised more than $16.5 million to benefit hundreds of local children’s charities.
